Designer Spotlight: Marcitect

9:28 pm in Designer Spotlight by Lauren

Marcitect is Marc De Gols, a Belgian interior designer with an international perspective. Having recently returned to Belgium from touring his projects around the world, he is now hard at work producing conceptual pieces that reflect the needs of the modern home. The above pictured chair is part of his cut-and-bent collection. The pieces all feature construction from a single aluminum 5mm sheet that is molded by the cut-and-bend principle of design work. As such, they have the unified, solid feel of modern decor along with the simple appeal of minimalism that is so necessary in today’s often hectic modern home.

Designer Spotlight: Florian Gilges

1:37 am in Designer Spotlight by Lauren

Florian Gilges is all about creating unique designs, unusual shapes, and unconventional projects. He uses his creative perspective to update traditional squares and rectangles to transform them into trapezoids and triangles, and replaces black and white with rich brown and cream. The above pictured Moduleros system is composed of four separate modules that can come together in a number of ways. It can be used as a long, wide side table, or as a tall shelving unit, depending on the configuration. And the available shelving space in any of the multiple forms of the Moduleros is enough to make any hallway or living room clutter-free in a few minutes.

Works of industrial designer Tokujin Yoshioka are quintessentially modern and sculpturistic in nature and the the "Waterfall" Table is no different. Having the distinction of being the world's largest optical glass table, "Waterfall" once again solidifies Yoshioka position as one the most critically acclaimed Asian designers. Commissioned by a private gallery in Tokyo, "Waterfall" measures a whopping 4.5 meters and will be seen at the 'Spectrum' exhibition at Beyondmuseum in Seoul, Korea.

Cool Balancing Boxes Bedside Table from Porro Furniture

5:40 pm in Art, Coffee, End & Side Tables, Cool, Decorating, Design, Furniture, Table, Tables by John

I have to say that I love this bedside table from Porro Furniture called "Balancing Boxes". It was created by the Swedish design group "Front", whose four members include Anna Lindgren, Katja Sävström, Sofia Lagerkvist and Charlotte von der Lancken. The concept of boxes providing storage and acting as a table top surface is an insightful idea. The way the boxes pivot on themselves melds both art and furniture into one statement. At 6DW we are all about recycling and reusing, and Italian design studio King + offers a great example of the stunning design that can come out of it. It has created a series of pendant lamps that are made from recycled textile spools. These pendants are available in a variety of colors and have been appropriately named Re + .

In addition to their construction from recycled spools, these pendants also feature LED bulbs, which provide an 85% increase in energy savings over traditional light bulbs.

usTogether combines the talents of British and Irish designers to produce ultra modern furniture for the bathroom market. With humble beginnings in the UK, this group has expanded its offerings and is now receiving international acclaim in design magazines, trade shows, and other media. Sleek, sophisticated and modular, their bathroom products are among the most unique in the world. The above pictured Ebb Bathroom set features smooth, geometric design that uses one fluid motion to go from tub to shower head to sink.  It uses the traditional ceramic white that bathrooms are known for, and updates it with an angled form and glass tub sides.

Making Sense Amid The Green Labels

5:13 am in Eco Friendly, Fair Trade, Green, Natural, Organic by Katie Nielsen

When I decided to begin making the switch from certain conventional foods to organic, I found myself completely confused and overwhelmed at the number of green labels found just at my local supermarket. “All natural,” “fair trade,” “organic”…what does it really all mean? And how in the world was I supposed to tell which were [...]

The 5 O'Clock Chair by Dutch brand Moooi makes quite an artistic statement by alluding to vibrant inspirations ranging from English china to the 50's retro decor!
