Meat Glue: EU’s Approval Of Food Additive, Not Down With Swedes

Meat glue: It sounds utterly repellent; like some pre-industrial, rustic adhesive made out of rat hair and smells of old garbage. The Swedish Consumers’ Association has joined politicians in criticizing the government’s approval of thrombin, known colloquially as ‘meat glue’, claiming that the public could be misled about the properties of the product. “We do [...]

Ultra Modern Interiors : A1 Mobilkom Store in Austria by EOOS

EOOS is well versed when it comes to interior design concepts and bringing them to reality. For A1 Mobilkom Austria's leading mobile phone provider the creation was a combination of technology, innovative thinking, and cutting edge aesthetics. When entering the customer passes through a "fog facade" that produces various scenarios of transcendence according to the time of day. Once inside the store, people stroll among LCD tables. Each customer receives a "ghost mobile" crystalline body to represent a mobile phone. By just placing it on various surfaces visitors can make purchases by loading the real and virtual products into the transparent object - and pick up their items at the checkout counter. A "future ramp" where "future cubes" displaying upcoming products as holographs takes customers to a metallic wing from which they approach the monolithic white bar and lounge area. See more from EOOS here.

Innovative Office Workstation and Resting Sleep Box

It's hard not to get excited about Sleepbox, an office workstation and resting pod designed for public places like train stations, airports and bus terminals. These small pods are rental units that provide travelers peace and quite as well as a place to work. More aggressive urban areas may even consider these for use on the streets or as a solution for the homeless. Sleepbox comes equipped with wi-fi, electric plugs, TV, a ventilation system and charging sockets for cell phones. The bed linen is changed automatically to ensure proper hygiene standards are kept. Currently, there is construction of these units in the Dubai airport with hopefully more places to follow. More information: here.

Designer Spotlight: Elisa Honkanen

Drawing upon her Finnish background as inspiration, designer Elisa Honkanen has a truly modern eye with a European flair. Her experience in Italy and France has prepared her for a smooth, minimalist approach to interior design. She combines “old” materials like natural grain wood with “new” industrial materials to create a synthesis of harmonious design. The above pictured folding table uses an interlocking mechanism for functionality and wood for sturdy but flexible design. She is currently displaying her work at the Stockholm Furniture Fair, and the future looks bright for this young designer.
