Multi talented designer Karim Rashid adds one more notch on his belt with the “Crystal Kitchen” from high profile kitchen manufacturer Scavolini. The bright and refreshing colors of this glass front collection come complete with all of the usable features Scavolini has become known for. According to Rashid “Decoration is a way of communicating, of conferring dimension, structure, form, depth and character; it’s a way of giving depth and dynamism to the objects that animate our space, that create favorable conditions, that drive the eye to go beyond the surface to arouse an illusion or entropy, to embellish or enrich the surfaces, materials and objects”. See more of the Crystal kitchen collection as well as all of their snazzy kitchen designs and an interview with Karim Rashid. Here Via

Designer Spotlight: Gry Holmskov

10:47 am in Uncategorized by Lauren

With humble beginnings as a cabinet maker, Gry Holmskov has expanded her skills to include design and creation. She graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Architecture in 2009, and has had many grants and traveling scholarships during her time as a student, including a sponsored DIS summerschool program. She is now both a freelance designer as well as a teacher at the Danish Institute for Study Abroad. Her piece pictured above is titled Angel, and incorporates a minimalistic seat with no backrest and fanned out base. The silhouette is the inspiration for the divine name, and exemplifies all of Holmskov’s work – simple, industrial, and beautiful.

The Bookwave

bookwave

Keeping on the theme of cool storage, how about the Bookwave! Certainly unconventional, this is both functional and completely different.  It’s designed to store books and magazines, but I think it could work great for shoes as well.  And there aren’t too many other bookshelves or shoe racks out there that can double as art!.

Concept Eco Caravan Camper by Andrew Scherr

7:57 pm in Uncategorized by John

We received this submission from Andrew Scherr which includes concept drawings for a camper or travel trailer. The project is called “Eco Caravan”. In Andrew’s words, “the ECO Traveler concept is a shed office on wheels, specially designed to be towed by a car, van or pickup by means of a bumper or frame hitch. The ECO traveler provides all the comforts and necessities of a home while on the road.” More and more people are looking at more mobile lifestyles. Coupled with the desire to live more eco-friendly, there likely is a future market for living spaces such as these. Via – Andrew Scherr.

Fun Ceramic Bathroom Furnishings by Cosmogres

6:00 pm in Uncategorized by John

Here are some ceramic bathroom furnishings that make a fun statement in any bathroom design. I find the flower to be very interesting though it serve as only a decorative accent. Usually modern design takes a more sterile approach in the bathroom, but in this case it becomes much more whimsical. This collection was designed by Sabrina Selli and is sold from Cosmogres here. Designer Spotlight: Clayton Oxford

10:19 am in Uncategorized by Lauren

Clayton Oxford is a man with a mission. He is not only an inspired designer and entrapreneur, but he is also environmentally and socially conscious. His designs are crafted out of local material from his many sources of inspiration, from the Philippines to Indonesia, from Vietnam to Africa. He uses only sustainable materials and purchases these at fair market values, using profits to help struggling economies and local craftsmen in many regions of the world. The designs themselves are simply stunning, each one displaying an aspect of the locale in which it was born, but also embodying a rustic post-modern vibe that appears ahead of its time.
